Seeburg STD 4 Mardi Gras

by bigdogblues » Mon Jul 04, 2011 7:16 am

Good Evening Ron, and all :)

I've just come home with a Seeburg Mardi Gras.
The price was right, but it is currently not working.
Once home I opened it up to find 3 records jammed on the turntable.
I safely removed those and hoped that was the only problem.
Of course it's never that simple. As it sits now, the turntable is turning
as soon as it's powered up. The selection playing shows number 138
and that's about it. Because this is my first Seeburg, I'm wondering
if there's anything simple i should be looking for? I tried the restet button
on the back of the machine, but that did nothing.
Ron, I will be buying your guides to Seeburgs but was looking for any
basic tips you might have in the time being.

Regards
Bruce.

Hi Big Dog,
Boy--that's one I have never seen on a Seeburg--two records"stuck" on the TT, yes--but not three ! (this HAS to be "human caused" !)
The rear "reject" switch may or may not be connected--that's an option-- did you try the "reject switch" on the "service switch assembly" ?
If that won't release the mech, check that the amp is powered up as it is necessary for that function. A blown fuse, on the amp will also stop it from "rejecting", as it shuts down all power to the amp. Assuming that you have a SHP type amp. installed in that phono, if the amp fuse has blown--insert no larger then a 2 amp fuse in it for now ( I use a 2 amp slo blo on all "rebuilds", as the 3.2 it calls for is too large, for my taste).
Other then that--you will need to wait till you at least have a Service Manual--
If you wish, you may contact me directly for copies of my two books-- ronnnrich@yahoo.com (Thanks for buying them !)

Thanks Ron, I'll email you offline shortly.
I feel like I'm starting this hobby from square one again.
My Rowes and Rockolas I know pretty well.
I opened the hood of this Seeburg and didn't recognize a thing.
The fun begins again.
