by junkman » Tue Oct 09, 2012 12:57 pm

I have a 1959 ami 200 j . When I make a selection it plays the wrong record .then it puts it back in the rack then it plays the one next to it and after it puts it back and no other selection made it keeps scanning for another record and want stop scanning and the turn table keeps turning it just want stop. The manual that I have has no troubleshooting. Than you for any help Terry

Terry, you have two separate problems.

For the wring selection prob: Remove the back, make a selection and note of the two arms are working correctly. That is, when the punch pulse hits one arm should be centered on the correct pin, the other between pins. This is a common problem on those older style mechs.

---The arms must be straight. Avoid bending them to fix this unless one is clearly already bent and you have to bend it back.

The scanning problem is usually caused be slippage of the belt or rubber tire (mechs of this era used either) that couples the scan switch cam to the shaft that couples to the gear on the basket.

There are some scans from the "I" 200 models with similar mech and alignment instructions:

Also look to the lower right and find the AMI I 200 sub album.

When I push a1 the jukebox picks up a11. When I push a11 it picks up a1. If I push a3 it picks up a11most of the a selections pick up a11. So I tried b1 it picked up b11 and when I pushed b11 it picked up b1. Is there a adjustment to correct this issue thanks terry

Terry has the pulse convertor been properly serviced? There are capacitors in there that determine the transfer interval between letter and numbers (AMi sends numbers first) and also the punch length. There are also wiper contacts on both sides of the printed boards in there that wear or and become eaten away by arcing. These can be made from other wipers found on credit units etc.

If the red stepper wheels become worn down -that- is a real problem, I don't know if any reproduction is available. Fortunately the do last a long time.

Another thing you might check is the condition of the keyboard itself. Check the condition of the pulse generator's wipers. Also, use a meter and check for continuity on the keyboard contacts.

Unfortunately, AMI went this route of making everything dependent on the stepper. Troubleshooting these is no big deal, actually fixing them can be.

i reset my push pin by removing fuse in bottom of cabinet and hit the pulse relay both contacts. this is a1 and i turned the big wheel on the pulse converter counter clock wise until sprag relay energies . cut power to juke put wedge to hold the sprag armature down. loosened the pinpusher on the back and set it to a1. the pin pusher was out of time on mine . so when i push a1 now it goes to a1 but i have to hold my number 1 of selection in to get it to work the center keys on keyboard will not latch or lock in i have to hold it in. why want they lock in ? thanks terry
