Seeburg R: SC, C, iC contacts: Canceling songs

by carl_694 » Tue May 06, 2014 4:27 am

Hey all!
Working through a problem with my 100R. It will not cancel selections, sort of. I have adjusted the SC, C, IC and reversing switches on my 100R. If I let the mech do it's thing, it won't cancel selections. I manually got the machine to the record clamping phase to verify continuity between the contacts(when IC,c sc contacts are closed at the same time) I get it across all three contacts. If I manually close the SC contact harder with the tip of a screwdriver while a record is loaded and playing, it WILL cancel the selection (though it won't unload the record for some reason when done playing). The pop meter solenoid also fires correctly. However it seems I can't really make the sc contacts close harder and keep it in adjustment along with the other switches. Any throughts?

Hi Carl,
Yep--
1. Be sure all contacts are "clean", free of "pits/burrs", the use a burnishing tool on them !
2. Be sure mounting screws are tight--but do not over-tighten, as they WILL snap
3.Adjust ALL contacts in the stack in order shown in the manual.
That "does it" every time for me--

Ron,
Thank you. This one is tricky. I have cleaned all the contacts (using contact cleaner and a business card) and followed the manual for adjustments. It all is in line. I guess I'll try again! Plus I'll use the burnishing tool, though I thinkt he SC contact is not a silver one. I don't understand why I am not getting the cancellation given the continuity between points when I manually move the mech to the requisite position where all three switches close. The reversging switch is definitely correct. Can't really adjust the C or SC contacts closer without affecting others, and it seems as if the SC contact is closing appropriately - but just isn't "hard" enough without manual intervention. Perhaps tightening things down will cause more pressure on the contacts and thus somewhat replicate the manual intervention.

Carl,
Don't quite understand--but if you're saying there is "no silver" left on a contact, THAT' s the problem--It will need to be replaced. Ron Rich

So I got some burnishing tools. Burnished the sc contact, which resolved the problem....for 9 or 10 plays. Sounds like a new switch is needed, unless someone has another idea!

Carl,
Depends--did you "properly" burnish them? Did you adjust them as per specs. ? Is there silver left on the contact points themselves ? If the above is all correct, it's time for at least one new contact point--not "switches"--Ron Rich
