Pioneer PL-L30 maintenance

by martinliv » Sat Dec 05, 2009 7:16 pm

I have a Pioneer PL-L30 turntable and wanted to know if the "vasoline" stuff thats under the sliding arm should be there or not. My turntable was skipping the in the same spots no matter the record played. So, when I discovered the goop under the arm, I cleaned it off. I guess that was a mistake because it then started skipping more often.

What type of lubrication do I need there? Where can I find some?

Thanks,

Martin Livingston

It's a linear tracking turntable.
I bet the tonearm drive belt or it's mechanism is at fault.
Get it serviced by a professional.
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.

That's the tonearm damping fluid. It is necessary for operation.

But I don't know what Pioneer used.

The original skipping was probably caused by a contaminant in the fluid (e.g. a particle large enough to stop smooth operation of the arm).
