Hallet Davis Phonograph

by zooluone » Sun Feb 08, 2015 6:27 am

I have a Hallet Davis floor model phonograph, but am unable to find any information on line about this particular model.
There is no specific name on the underside of the lid just the company name Hallet Davis with an date 1839. If anyone
has information about who manufactured this machine for them, a different name that was used for this machine, any
and all information would be appreciated. The machine has three needle wells toward the back of the machine, the tone arm is
in excellent condition, the speed control and the brake all work fine in addition the crank work great. Thank you for your response.

That was one of hundreds of off-brand models produced during the late teens through the mid-1920s, and is indexed in this article --

SEE: http://www.antiquephono.org/brand-talki ... j-wakeman/

You can also check the Dec. 1922 edition of the Talking Machine World, which has several references to the company --

https://archive.org/stream/talkingmachi ... 5/mode/2up (Do a search in the "search inside" box for Hallet.)

From what I can see, doing some preliminary web searches, they were a piano manufacturer who expanded their line to include phonographs during the period when the key patents held by the major manufacturers expired --

I also found a few newspaper ads, doing a google news archive search --
