ok so my rockola 470 was working just fine then last night it started doing something weird. I changed a few records so i was using the scan to go around when i put it back into operate it started stuttering would go for a second and stop go and stop real quick. sometimes it would make it back to home position sometimes it would just stop and i would have to go into scan to make it go to home, this hole time the play relay was clicking like crazy if that matters. today i have been looking at it more and playing with it and it seems like if it is in operate and at home position it will select a record without the stuttering and play it just fine it will even play 2 in a row, but as soon as it wants to go to the home position it starts stuttering again. I was thinking bad play relay maybe? If anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

Dear Boy,
Ain't nothing "weird" about that--it's a common RockOla problem--easy fix, use some Deoxit, and a paper towel on the motor carry over ring, on the read out carriage side. Ron Rich

Ok I think I know what your talking about im kinda a noob to jukebox stuff. its the backsideof the round thing that the selector pins are on right? Like I said noob... I have some crc electronic cleaner in my garage that I used on an old stereo will that work on the jukebox? I bought it because deoxit was hard to find here.. Otherwise I can order some online and wait I just dont want to wait.. the crc worked like a charm on stereo I just dont want to just throw it on the juke though if it might hurt it. its worth a bit more than a garage sale stereo.. :D

Boy,
Where's "here" ? Please post that info in your "profile".
I once had some CRC product that seemed to work almost as well as Deoxit, I think i was called CRC 426 ? Anyway, it should not hurt to try it--You also might try a plastic safe safety solvent and a pencil erasure--NOTHING, more abrasive !! Ron Rich

My Rockola 470 has got stuck with the selector arm pointing straight up. When I push the scan lever the 2 cogs, one small and one larger don't engage properly. I am not sure if it is because it is jammed or the teeth are worn.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Gavin

Gavin,
I can't quite visualize exactly what is happening there--but I would do the following to attempt a correction:
While the gripper is up, remove any record it may have in it, and using 20 wt. ND oil get the oil into both spring loaded sections( the "center grabber" and the gripper arm itself). Also be sure to saturate the two gears that must slide past each other (upper top section). Having done that, I would ( with the power OFF), turn the gripper motor backwards, to the "home" ( over basket) position. I would then oil the track/dog n the main gear, then scan it using the motor to determine if the "dog" was changing positions as it should. If all's now OK, try a selection, and it probably will work. HTH Ron Rich

I assume you mean the basket motor is "stuttering" ? If so, did you use "Deoxit", or something else ?

Sorry it took so long to reply i was out of town...anyways it is the basket that is stuttering when it goes around. i ended up using this spray stuff my buddy had at his shop it said "industrial" he uses it all the time in car stereos so he said it should work.. and it did for about 5 times around then tge stuttering started again... i only had about a quarter can so i was thinking it might still be dirty...i dunno any thoughts would be great..

At the risk of sounding like an AH--I would ignore you "buddy", and now do the following:
Purchase a can of "Deoxit 5", a can of "plastic safe" safety solvent, and a container of 91% isopropyl alcohol. Then I would remove the read-out arm, and use the solvent on the rings, first, then the alcohol, then the Deoxit. I would do the same to the contacts on the arm, and if needed, burnish them with a proper burnishing tool. Ron Rich
