Wurlitzer amplifiers

by clones » Tue Feb 14, 2012 12:22 pm

Hi
While i am sort of familiar with some rockola and nsm amplifiers, i just have a question regarding wurlitzer amplifiers from the late seventies and early eighties, they have two current limiting lamps fitted externally which I understand are called festoon lamps, i assume they are meant to protect the amplifier circuit, but should they light up when a jukebox is in operation, as i have one wurlitzer where the lamps start to glow when a record is being played and then cease to glow when the record has finished, what faults would i need to look for inside the amp to determonie the overload, or is it the case of checking the various conponents

Those lamps should NOT light. In doing so, it indicates an "overload". This can be anything "outside" of the amp, such as a shorted speaker wire, or incorrectly installed speaker,or shorted wire going to a speaker, or, in some cases, something within the amp.
In either case, it will be at the end of the chain-- Ron Rich
