Would anyone be familiar with the Pathe' Model 60, a tabletop machine? Any idea of year of manufacture?, How many made?, any ads or trade magazines with this model.

Yes this should be an American one, as the inside plate says Paris - New York. Would you know anything about this model?

A photo might help. There are numerous Pathe table models, and I think some are translated from the French Pathe company to overseas distributors, others are changed / renumbered so it's difficult to say without knowing what it looks like?

As you can see below I was trying to find out about Pathe machines but nobody seems to know anything about them!?

Some 20's models can be converted into horn machines - so called "Jour Et Nuit" models. I reckon (by the lack of response) that most collectors realise the machine that they have is a pup which has been put together in recent years with repro hardware - hence, no-one will commit themselves to say whether anything is right or not or they are otherwise to embarrassed to admit that they own one!

Ebay.fr is FULL of these machines and everyone I've looked at bar none appears to be a "bitsa". I've seen sites on the web where collectors are proudly displaying their machines with text stating that these machines are incredibly rare and never caught on originally. I have discovered that they were available for at least 6 years and sold extremely well - go figure. There is a huge information gap where Pathe is concerned unlike the global knowledge which exists about say, Edison, Victor, Columbia or HMV.

If any French collectors do indeed KNOW what is correct and what is fake, they sure like to keep it to themselves!

Thanks Steve! I totally agree, although the Pathe' machines, are somewhat rare in some ways, it seems like they are also common in general. I just never seem to see two machines that are alike on e-bay.

The one I have has a grille in front like most table tops. It also has the speed control with the pathe rooster on the speed control. When we get to the motor, its different, The motor is that generic "Motor of Quality", which pops up in so many generic off-brand machines. The reproducer and arm are the typical Pathe'. I have yet to have a collector admit to owning one of these.

Also, I tried writing the publisher of the book on Pathe' phonographs, and they said it is not in their book. I doubt I have a rare bird, but would be nice if there was more information dug up on the Pathe' brand.
