Seeburgs USC1 wont pick up records in some slots 160/260 to 169/269

by Boh6368 » Tue Mar 10, 2015 6:21 pm

Hello again I Have another issue with my Seeburg USC1, The juke wont pick up a record in the 160/260 to 169/269 selection. I cleaned all contact points. I make a selection and it scans twice and docks. I can select any other record and it picks up and plays fine. Any Help would be appreciated..

Thanks Lenard

Hi Lenard,
Not quite sure what you are saying--will it detent at either side, of record 60, or 69 ?
Are you sure it detents at both sides of record 59, and 61 ?-- how about 68, and 70 ?
Which, "All contacts" did you "clean", and how did you do it ?

I cleaned all contacts with an Eraser and alcohol wipes. What I meant by it wont select either the A side selection numbers 160, 161, 162,163, 164, 165, 166, 167, 168, 169 or the B Side 260, 261, 263, 264, 265, 266, 267, 268, 269 but any other slection I make works fine. I can select any number for the juke to play and it works and plays other then the selections listed above

OK-Check the plugs on the back of the DTP/DRD--be sure all "pins" are standing at the same height, when removed ( Be SURE to turn power off, before removing/installing these plugs !!! ). Once you are sure all is OK, try the following:
Enter the first digit on the DES as normal. Enter the second digit by pushing the # 1 and #3, at the SAME time. Do the same thing with the third digit--let me know what happens. Ron Rich

Hi Ron, I checked all the pins and all look good and at the same height. I then entered the numbers you told me and the mech just scans 2 times and then docks at 177, it did dock at 174 one time but I repeated this and its docking at 177.

PS:
I cant wait to Get your books, I ordered Ron Rich's Seeburg Mechanism Guide and Seeburg Microlog Jukebox Troubleshooting Guide both on Amazon. I Should get them soon and they should help me out a lot.

Thanks Lenard

Thanks for purchasing the books--wish you had contacted me directly for them--
Try the following and let me know what happens--
play #159 while it's playing, remove the "Tormat" (RCA) plug from the DCC. Use a known good ""C cell" ( flashlight battery), do the following. Place the top side(+) of the battery on bare metal, touch the tip of the RCA plug to the bottom of the battery, reinstall the RCA plug into the socket. Slide the reject switch to reject, and let me know what happens next--- Ron Rich

Ron, I did what you said and when I hit the reject button it went over and played 160, Now it just keeps going to the next selection one after another every time the record finishes or when I hit the reject button and it wont stop.

Thanks Lenard

Hi Lenard,
OK, you have "proven" the problem is in the write-in section of you phono.
Most likely it is a DRD problem, it can also be a TMU problem, but far less likely. And, it still can be a bad "contact" in a plug !
Not knowing your skill level, I would advise you to send the DRD out to someone familiar with it, for repair.
(Yes, I do repair/rebuild them-PM me, if you wish).
If you know how to repair LSI related items, and you wish to DIY, you need to purchase the late Tony Miller's "Black/Gray box book".
If not, do not open it, as opening them without proper static protection, WILL, destroy the LSI. Ron Rich

Ron by DRD you are referring to the grey box correct and not the black box I believe is the DTP 1, I am going to coinop this week they may have one if not ill pm you to have mine repaired.
Is there a way to get it back to play at least the way it was before this test, Just wondering.

Thanks again for your help. :D

Hi Lenard,
Plug problem --for sure !! Yes--to "un-select" what you have done with the battery, either remove the Tormat plug and scan the mech, or reverse the battery--plus side to metal, tip of plug to minus side of the cell.
