Seeburg LS2 Free Play

by Las Vegas Jukebox » Tue Apr 30, 2013 8:53 am

I've searched the Internet for this, but could only find my question - not the answer.

I have an LS2 Gem on Free Play and I want to revert it back to coin op.

I know that it depends how the machine was converted to free play in the first place, but as I don't know that, I need to know what the different possibilities are so that I can check them out. Surely, there can only be a finite number of ways to set these machines to free play.

Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
Keith

Keith,
Unfortunately, tho there may be finite ways to accomplish this, it never ceases to amaze me when I see one done in "a new (to me !) way".
The most common way is to remove the subtract pawl, after that, I have seen the credit wheel removed, the credit wheel cut, the subtract pawl spring "pulled back", the credit switches mis-adjusted, or "jumped".
The Seeburg USPU, APU, and UDPU, credit units are a very good unit, IF, set up as per the manual details.
If not done correctly, they will destroy themselves very quickly---
Good luck !

Thanks Ron,

The subtract pawl had been removed, fortunately I found it, along with the spring, in the bottom of the jukebox.

It is now back where it should be and working great.

This is one of 17 jukeboxes I have just picked-up from a private collection - all set to free play. I think the other Seeburg's all have black boxes and have had the pricing boards removed. Unfortunately, the boards are not inside the boxes, so they may have to stay on free play.

Keith,
The "adjustment" of that pawl is very critical---
check the manual--
Also, I have pricing boards--PM me if you wish

Hi Keith -

Can you please post a picture of the reinstalled Subtract Pawl? I have a LS2 that was set by someone to Free Play and I am stumped totally stumped to figure out what they did. Staring blankly at the manual and the unit doesn't seem to fix the problem. I want to set it back to normal coin play before toasting a latch solenoid.

Thanks Mark.

ps- 17 jukes from an auction? Bet that made you smile.

Hi Mark

I will get you a photo - just bare with me until I have time (later today if possible).

I totally understand why you are stumped, it took me a while to figure it out. The main reason is that the drawing in the manual is rotated 90deg. to how you look at the assembly in the jukebox. Even when you get the drawing and unit the same way around it is difficult to match the "real" parts to the drawn ones.

When I get the photo I will try to add some notes and arrows to it, but I should warn you that my photoshop skills are at a -1 on a scale of 1-10.

PS. It wasn't an auction - just a private collection that the owner only wanted to sell as a job lot. I got 5 Seeburg's, 4 Rock-Ola's, 4 Rowe, 3 NSM and a Wurlitzer.
Regards
Keith

The image below shows my Seeburg Universal Dual Pricing Unit, Type: UDPU6 with the front/top cover removed (two screws top and two screws bottom, or two each side, depending on your orientation).

Hey Keith - Thanks! a picture is worth a thousand words sometimes. I now have two UDPU6 and they are both missing the subtact pawl and spring you showed in your picture. Mystery Solved! Unfortunately they were not left behind in the bottom of my LS2s. Now to go to home depot and buy a couple subtract pawls.

Regards - Mark
