"Marked" magnet

by Ron Rich » Tue Jan 21, 2014 7:42 pm

Hi All,
I am looking for any magnet --smaller, least expensive, the better--that has the poles marked. I need this to ID magnets that do not have markings--I'm thinking a small horse-shoe, type, that used to sell for 5 cents (back when I was young  ). PM me if you know where I can purchase one --Thanks ! Ron Rich

Hi Ron:

The magnets I remember were always marked N (north) and S (south). There's some discussion about it on this page, that explains it better than I could -- http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/in ... 215AA6itGV

Any way, I remember that these used to cost about 10 to 25-cents at Ben Franklin's dime store when I was a kid -- http://www.starmagic.com/store.cgi?A-Ho ... 0+3D3A1D03

If you can hunt down a variety store, they may have them.

Joe,
X-actly what I need--Last "Ben Franklin" I knew of in this area, was in "Beautiful Downtown" SOUTH San Francisco--
I must be much older then you, as I am sure that I purchased them for a nickel each, at my "corner 5 and dime" !

Remember when the "five and dime" store actually sold stuff for five and ten cents? The Ben Franklin I went to as a child had a rack of dime toys--tops, magnets, balls, imitation Matchbox cars, bags of marbles, soap bubble solution, tin sheriff badges, compasses mounted in the centers of tiny rubber tires-->

balsa wood airplanes, small kites.....

They still sell many of these today, for about five bucks a pop.

Damnation! I'm gettin' old..................
