Seeburg Amplifier Dummy Plug

by juke46 » Tue Aug 16, 2016 2:53 pm

I have been providing remote volume control for my 1950's Seeburgs as I find enough parts to build a remote. The last one I did has the usual (so I thought) 7 pin plug by Amphenol. When I pulled the dummy plug from the amp I found my new volume control plug would not fit; it seems a bit larger. I did not know they came in different sizes or, I suppose, I am the dummy?

David (PS the Seeburg V you all helped so much with is doing fine!

David, there were three.

One was the larger with 7 fat pins. this was used up to the "R" (Ron can correct me on this). The other was the small pin 7 that started with the V and J.

The stereo tube amps used a 9-pin till 1962 when a motorized RVC was introduced.

The old large jumper (IIRC) has a cap so you could just remove it and solder wires in-place of the jumpers within. Or simply remove the jumper and solder directly to the terms underside of the chassis. My approach it to use a short length from the 7-pin to a European type terminal strip. This is necessary because I usually have an external PA feed from these machines.

Hi Guys,
Anytime I have run into this problem, I have depended on one or more of the "used parts suppliers" listed above--give them the amp model number, and a few days later, I have the correct "dummy plug"-- ab-so-lute-ly amazes me ! Ron Rich
