Rock-Ola 484 Logic Board Diodes?

by BobbyBoy » Sun Feb 28, 2016 12:35 am

I picked up a 484, Got the Gripper Mechanism to work freely. Machine starts up, Magazine goes to Home Position, I can make a selection, and the magazine keeps moving. Doesn't stop. I have adjusted to Opto to the correct position. I took a close look at the logic board Model 53560-A and took it out to test, looks like I have a bad diode on the board. Anyone know a replacement? D410. I have an original Service manual and full schematics, but this logic board isn't listed.

Other issues are: If I manually rotate the Gripper motor over a record, it will grip it and then rest it on the turntable. I can then use the switch to put the machine in Opp mode and it will play(sound out of one speaker..solve one problem at a time :D ), and at the end of playing, the gripper will return the record to the magazine and go to the home position.

I am replacing the battery pack which was a 6V 1Ah GE Ni-Cad.
I have cleared the hit tracker, and it doesn't keep track of my selection.

Are there any markings on the diode itself ?? If so, look at other diodes/boards for one with the same numbers/markings, and you may be able to find it on another board in that phono ??

Ron - There are other Diodes on the board, but cant read them...I'll have to take a macro lens to them...
My electronic skills are limited(amazing whats on youtube) Maybe I'm wrong about the diode?
Can you think of any other reason the magazine wont stop on a selection? Hit Tracker battery?
I'm waiting on delivery of a resistor that was burnt out on the Battery pack(52255-A) board. I ordered a 6V .8aH NiCad also as the replacement for the 6 cell GE 6V 1aH battery...so will see if that will make a diff.

Hi Bobby,
I have never worked on that board--but diodes seldom fail--especially the newer silicone types--except for one type, I know of--any 1N00x type case, with a BROWN band on it, is often intermittent, open/shorted ! These can be replaced in Seeburg brand equipment with a 1N004. Do you have a meter--checking diodes is simple--
Are you sure that the batt. is a 6 volt ?? That is high for most jukebox applications ?? Ron Rich

Thanks for the info on diodes. worst case is that I just replace them and see what happens...I'll order some 1N004.

On that battery I'm sure. 6V 1aH .

Hi
On the parts list for a rockola 488 -D410 is a zener diode 7.5 volts 1W IN4737A 5%, it may be different for a 484 but I doubt it. The zener should be fairly obvious from a regular diode. Other reasons for non selection could be a problem with on e of the ic's on the logic board or a problem with the profit setter. The battery pack under the turntable is only for the machine to keep and store credits if there was a power cut and the hit tracker is not needed

Hi Bobby, Clones,
If a ZD,a 1N00x won't work !! How can you tell from the packaging ?? I have seen all types of diodes packed in many different "cases"--- ??

Hi
True but try that diode. The diode you think is faulty you will have to take it out of circuit to be sure it is faulty before you replace. Hopefully it is the diode and not one of the ic's but most on the logic board can be replaced

1N -FOUR - 007 = 1N4007
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.

Thanks both for your insight, and clones for the info on the 410. I'll order a few and see what happens. Going on vacation, so a perfect time to wait for the shipping!

Took the diode out. Looks like a rectifier... I can see 2 digits that look like "37" on it. Bring any thoughts to what it may be?
Let me know if you can see the pic from the link.

Bobby,
Please, check, and comply with the PM sent Feb 27th--
That APPEARS to be a "1N-FOUR-000 type" diode--however I have also seen ZD's housed in the same case ??
Didja measure it ??
