Hi all...my first post here (referred from the fine folks over at KLOV). I've read the "Newbie" sticky and hopefully will get a 'pass' since my manual is ordered and I'm waiting for it.

I just got my first juke: A Seeburg LS 325. Previously I've worked quite a bit on arcade machines and a little on pinball (all self taught, so I feel confident in learning the ins and outs of jukes too) but this is the first time I've seen the insides of a jukebox...so I'm still on the steep learning curve.

As I wait for my manual in the mail, I really only have one issue on my juke that is a deal-killer and could use some advice on where to look and what to expect:

When I enter numbers on the keypad, I usually get 'double' or 'triple' entry. So I hit '1' and it enters '11' or '111'. If I'm SUPER careful I can hit it just right and cause only a single entry.

As an arcade/pinball guy I thought this would be a contact issue (needing cleaning/reseating connections) but after a little reading I suspect it may not be that simple.

I'm mostly trying to figure out: Keypad issue? Wiring Issue? Or Black/Greybox issue? Any help would be great to point me in the right direction.

Thanks for reading the "newbie sticky"--but there are a couple of others, that you, and everyone, should read---
On that LS-3, it sounds as if someone's "dumped" an obsolete DES in that phono. Look at the main trigger switch ( the outboard one) with the POWER OFF ! It should have an over center snap switch attached. If it has an over-center coil spring type, switch, it should have been changed way back in 1970--- If you have the snap style, clean it, as it's "bouncing"--I have written about a page on that DES, in my "Seeburg MicroLog Trouble Shooting Guide"--PM me if you wish to purchase a copy--Ron Rich

Awesome, thanks Ron! Honestly I have no idea what any of your reply means (yet) but it at least gives me some things to lookup and research.

I'm glad you mentioned this guide you put out and I'm probably interested in that, but it leads to my second question: With this machine can you recommend a couple "must have" books/documents/manuals?

Honestly I dont want to spend $100 on literature..but I want to have the right resources to get me going. Is there a list of "to start, buy these 3 things" that I should look at?

As I'm just getting started this is a case of "i dont know what I dont know" so I'm just trying to get a feel for how these things work and what components they contain.

Decrypted part of Ron's response DES (Digital Electronic Selector), which is the keypad itself I believe. Main trigger in the grey box. (?)

So may be incorrect keypad (DES), and/or the main trigger contact needing cleaned, if it is the snap style.

If you are getting serious with this juke, Ron's guide would probably be a good addition of course!

DES is correct--"Main trigger" is the "outside" switch on the DES--Once again--Use caution here, on accounta cause if you short either one of the plug-on leads to ground, you will destroy the "Main trigger circuit" in the DTP-1 !

Books-- I suggest that you really should purchase the next model's (USC-1) Service manual, as it is much better then the LS-3 version--less errors--and more info. I also wrote the "Seeburg Mechanism Guide" to cover the mechanism portion only--Ron Rich

So, I went ahead and cleaned the switch contacts. Now numbers 1 and 2 seem to work perfect, but numbers 3-9 (and 0) are not working at all...they give the "reset and re-select" light instantly.

Hehe, I knew you'd ask The exterior switch (on the left side when flipped open)...cleaned the contacts on that with a piece of thick paper and contact cleaner (cleaner on paper, paper between contacts, gently swipe the contacts)

That really seemed to do the trick for buttons 1 and 2 but apparently I messed up something on the other contacts somehow? Seems like maybe it's a problem in the harness to the blackbox?...I checked that edge connector and it seems solid (but I didnt clean anything on that side)

That's the "Main Trigger Switch"-- If you are attempting to use 03456789, as a "first digit", it should give you a reset signal--Only the numbers 1 and 2 are valid for the "first digit"--- Ron Rich

Haha, well, yeah, you got me there. I was trying 'invalid' digits as the first ones (so they gave me a 'reset' indicator).

So, now I try to enter a valid code and it seems to work. The numbers now punch in properly one at a time.

EDIT: Previously I was plugging in numbers and they entered OK but it just scanned forever. I turned the machine off and came back and hour later, plugged some selections and they worked, but played (I think) all the selections I made previously first. Not sure what's going on (whether it's playing the wrong records for my entries or if it's backlogged into a bunch of old entries...not sure)

I think at this point I just wait for Rons book and go from there.'
