Auditronics 300VT (Build Date: 6th of December, 1978)

Aloha from Hawaii, USA.

I have an Audiotronics 300VT turntable I acquired up in Alaska in 2006. I've used it quite a bit in my offices and lately, then turntable won't maintain proper speed and/or at each particular speed it "drags" . . .

Would lubricating the main portions of the spinning pieces suffice or is it possible the motor on this is just worn out? It's a great sounding unit and if fixable, I'd like to keep it.

Thanks.

Any lubricants on the driven surfaces WILL be wrong to do.
By now that rubber drive idler is most likely hard and glazed, and will need replacing, along with a complete cleaning and re-lubrication of all the bearings and linkages. (with the proper oil & grease)
And probably the rubber motor mounts are dryrotted allowing the whole mechanism to sag out of alignment.
The only proper "fix" is to have the unit overhauled - properly.
A good check of the electronics is worth the time and costs too, to prevent a future issue.
You wouldn't drive a 1978 car all these years without some kind of mainenance and expect to get far, would you?
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.
