I need help please! GE Stereo

by souplady49 » Sun Sep 23, 2012 5:37 pm

Hi,

I have what I think is a '50's GE stereo/radio. Please see photos. I have looked online and can't seem to find anything like it, in that it is a small unit. 16" depth, 38.5 length, and 27" height. Although there is a sticker on the back, I cannot find a model number. There is a stamp on the back, which I think is "6W5." I have had "Peachy" (as in peachy keen :) for about 6-7 years when I bought her from the flea market for $100. I was told I was only the second person to own her, as another old lady (ha! my 49th is in two days) had her from the beginning. She worked perfectly until about a year ago, when the 33 speed went off. I managed to tape her in that position when needed. Unfortunately, times are tough, and I am considering selling her. I was wondering if anyone has seen another of these, or has any helpful information/value? If it makes a difference, I live in Florida. Thanks any and all for any help!!!!

It's an early 1960's unit, relatively common model.
It should have been gone over by a tech to address aging components.
In the as-is condition it's now in, it's most likely worth about $25.
I see them in thrift stores all the time.
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.
