Magnavox Astro Sonic question

by jlhyde » Thu Oct 18, 2012 7:29 am

I have my mothers Magnavox, which was purchased in the 60's. It is beautiful and it works. Radio plays and records also... the problem is there is a loud buzz when either of them is in use. Is there a solution to this problem? I live in St. George, Utah and Las Vagas is 2 hours away. If a part needs to be replace or what ever I really want to be able to enjoy it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks JUDIE

This sounds like bad power supply components, due to age.
A common problem.
Aging of such things requires a good overhaul regardless of how well the set is treated.

Discontinue use immediately, and locate a local service tech familier with older Magnavox products.
Failure to other components, some expensive, will result from continued use in that condition.
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.
