1960's Magnavox Micromatic Turntable

First time posting, so here goes:
I'm hoping some one in here can help me out. I've got a typical story about a fairly typical unit.

I've been given a early 1960s model Magnavox Micromatic cabinet with turntable/am-fm tuner. The unit hasn't been turned on in probably 25+ years. I was surprised to find that the unit fired up nicely right off the bat (after splicing the power cord back together).

Anyway, after maybe 30 minutes of total play time, the record player decided to act funny. I'll turn the knob to "auto" to get it started and after I let go it will spin and then stop. If I look closely, it appears to be spinning very slowly, but I get no action from the needle arm.

This is the only problem I can see right now, but after reading several posts it seems a very important and popular thing to do is replace some transistors, capacitors, etc...

What is a good plan for restoration?

Thanks for your help!

Stop using the unit and locate a local restoration service to go over the unit.
Don't expect it to be cheap, these things need lots of work due to age.

There are plenty listed on the internet.
Radioattic.com is a site with resources.

Shame you're in Texas, cause I'm in Philly and do that sort of work at our shop.
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.

Thanks Matt!

I think I found a shop in Austin that does this kind of work. A bit of a drive, but it might be worth it.
