radio I.D. and helpwith another

by 62SY4 » Thu Jan 31, 2008 4:36 am

Hello I have question about a radio I have had for a while and it is now time to fix it. I do not know who the manufacturer is i recall there was a paper tag and schematic stapled to the bottom of the radio which has disintegrated i think it was Philco maybe a Zenith. It is an AM-shortwave radio. the only possible useful information i can give comes from the chassis and that is it has a paper sticker the shows the tube placement and also reads Chassis PC No. 30302, there is a termainal block with two terminals labeled "A" and "G" and also a single RCA type jack. This is a smaller wooden case radio suitable for on credenza or night stand, from the styling i believe the radio dates from the 40's.

My next question is about a Magnavox astrosonic console that hums as soon as it is turned on, the intensity of the hum does NOT increase as the volume does what causes this? It is pushed against the wall so I cant get the model information right now but I do know that my father purchased it in 1964.
Thanks, Jon

Bad filter capacitors in the power supply cause hum.
