mismatched 222 speakers

My 222 has one original 222 speaker and a replacement from an lpc I think. You can definitely hear the difference, as the lpc sounds less efficient / bright. Would a q100 speaker be a good substitute ? if not, which models would match the closest to the 222 16 ohm speaker ? Thanks.

Jim, LPC woofers are metallic blue.

The speakers used in the 2201-222 are voiced differently than others that Seeburg used because they didn't use a tweeter of any sort. Nothing other than what was used there will match.
I used LPC speakers and added two horn tweeters w/crossover in a 222 that I built up from just a cabinet, mech and keyboard. I also replaced the original tonearm with one using the later cart and bypassed the internal preamp with a new external one.

It is a bit of work and expense, but the result is far superior to the original.

Jim,
Seeburg spent time and money "matching speakers" to both the cabinet and audio system. For an original sound, the original model speaker is best. Did you contact any of the "jukebox junkyards" listed above for one ??

Rob, sounds like quite a build. Not sure how you mounted the tweeters as my cab only has two 12" openings, unless you have them in external boxes. yes, my second speaker is an lpc with the blue metallic frame, thanks for verifying.

Ron, I've scoured the internet looking for one in decent shape, but not much luck. 2 that looked as if they we're under water at one point on epay in the last couple of weeks, I checked most of the juke resellers. Maybe I'll try the wanted adds on here.

Jim, the tweeters were 2-½ in so I just cut the holes above and to the sides of the grill ornaments. I switch the internal crossover box to "yes" which places a choke in-series with the woofers.

There was another 222 that went into Caroline's Comedy Club when it was located in the South Street Seaport tourist trap.
We rebuilt the machine for that location in 1987 using two Utah 12" co-ax speakers and an SHP amp for which I built a bracket to mount the amp on the back frame at a slight angle to clear the lock cylinder. One minor problem was one of the anchor threads from the medallions on the grill hit the cover grilles on the tweeters in the new speakers. Fortunately, this was curable by removing those grills and there was just enough clearance to not damage the tweeters. The biggest problem with that installation was the fact that the power outlet was on the concrete floor a few inches -in front- of the machine and people kept knocking it out and breaking the ground pin. Thankfully I was done with that when they moved about five years later.

I recently bought a 222 that is missing its speakers.I can buy modern Jensen alnico 16ohm replacements but just found this post which interests me because I have a set of 12" plus the tweeters from an LPC.Could Rob explain how to wire the tweeters into the existing wiring and crossover?Would save some expense.

Mick, the existing box in a 220-222 is not a full crossover. It is a second order (12 db/octave) low-pass filter. When the switch is set to "yes" the box chokes out all the highs from the 12" speakers.

I don't know how you would mount the "tweeters" from an LPC as they and their backbox are too big.

What i used was a horn tweeter similar to this: http://www.pyleaudio.com/sku/PH25/3-x-3-Horn-Tweeter I used one for each channel and since they are 8 ohm, I added an 8 ohm 10 watt non-inductive resistor and a simple 10 mfd non-polarized capacitor for a 6db crossover in series with each.
