I've just joined, intending to get info on my own teak 101, identical to (the one in this post)* --

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1982

I bought it locally here in NZ about 30 years ago. I don't normally use it for playing 78s...I have an SME arm, Shure M44 cartridge and Garrard 401..standard gear, but do use it for picnics and bunfights. It probably arrived with someone in the post 1947 exodus from India. It has been running beautifully for years but recently broke its mainspring. Any suggestions on obtaining replacement? There's a picnic coming up with a ban on post-1932 music.

Hi Harold:

Welcome to Phonoland. I moved your post into its own (New) post string, so more people might see it.

Since this is such a desirable and relatively rare model, you may also want to consider having the motor professionally cleaned and overhauled at the time you have the mainspring replaced.

Thanks for your interest and help. Great site!
I now wish I had kept all those gramophones I sold some years ago!
