I have a stand-alone Magnavox Micromatic. Is there a way to rig it so it will shut off a seperate amp?

There are three ways:

1. An electrical socket on a cord connected across the motor terminals. But be aware that you can't draw more than 3 amps from the connection without ruining the switch in the record changer.

2. Use the same connection as above, but use the power so obtained to operate a power relay, which can handle more current.

3. Find an Off-O-Matic box on ebay. This senses the current drawn by the record changer plugged into its sensitive outlet, and switches on the amplifier plugged into its other outlet. There are also some power strips which sense current being used to power a computer CPU plugged into a special socket, and switch on the accessories plugged into the other outlets.
