Seeberg Selectomatic M100B - Record Selection-Play Problem

by chasstrauch » Sat Jun 01, 2013 9:09 pm

When a nickel is dropped into the coin box, the "Select light" goes on. When I make 1 selection - there is a low humming noise, the select light stays on and the carriage does not move. I then make another selection, the humming noise stops, the select light goes off and the carriage does not move to select and play the record. I can move the carriage using the service switch. When I drop a quarter in the slot - I get the same result - but the select light goes out after 3 selections.

I also noted that the 54U-G vacuum tube doesn't light up -not sure if that is a problem as well.

The unit has been idle for at least 2 years - my guess is that the contacts are dirty and that may be the problem. If so - not sure as to how they should be cleaned or if the gaps need adjustment.

I am a 7 on scale of 10 in understanding on electromechanical stuff and can fix almost anything. But if there is a guru located in the South Carolina area - that is probably my best bet. '

I have the AMR Service and Parts Manual - "AMR NO. R-258"

The"low humming noise" concerns me--where is it coming from, and how long does it last ?
5U4 only lights when motor is powered--
Check that the service switches are set to play ( both the spring loaded and toggle switches must "point" in the same direction)
Check list of "repair people" at http://www.alwaysjukin.com--
