new owner of magnavox astro sonic / micromatic (help)

Hello

This belonged to my grandparents and it recently found it way into my house.

Im not sure of the model number all I can tell is from the user manual it appears to be the micromatic version of the record player and has the Astro sonic 151293-1 radio

The potentiometers sound dirty they introduce static when adjusted and tuning the radio is very difficult and has a very narrow sweet spot probably due to age / dust. How can I clean the tuner and pots to reduce / eliminate static?

The left speaker appears to not work and ideas?

Other than that and being stained a 1970s green it sounds awesome when dialed in on the radio. Records even brand new ones seem to have some static being introduced from somewhere.

Look around this forum and you will find a ton of information on this. As always with these vintage units it will need a recapping and a changer servicing. Otherwise you risk damaging other parts, some of them being rather expensive. As for a dead speaker, could be anything from the speaker on back through the amp. Speaker is most likely fine, loose wire, bad crossover, dirty pots etc.

I've used the search feature on this forum, and while it works, an easier option is to use Google's "site search" provision. Simply type --

site:Phonoland.com
