Hi John,
OK-- You "got me"--there is no way I know of, that AC can be applied to a speaker, without causing a reaction ??

John, if the DC voltages check out, the next step is to check the speaker connections -in particular the common ground (black wire). Any significant resistance will cause them to become across the channels and thus cancel most of the center imaged sound (centered vocals and mono records for instance). One clue is to disconnect one red or blue lead from one speaker and see if the other speaker goes dead as well.

Similarly, the volume control has a common ground connection and resistance there can cause the same effect. Same too with the input source.

A quick test by running a clip lead to parallel the existing ground connect will reveal any discrepancies.

Rob
I am getting 5.8Vac at both red and blue wires but not across the speaker terminals.
The common wire of both speakers is connected to chassis ground.
At the speaker test switch I have 5.8Vac leaving on both channels.
I have no reading when I connect across the active to chassis.
All connections seem ok, common wire resistance to chassis is 0 ohms.
Disconnecting blue and red wires at the speaker terminals does not affect the other channel.
It looks to me as if the 5.8Vac is on one side of the speaker but there is no hum.
