Hi,
My problem is my wallbox won't start the mech. moving. The jukebox works fine it's an R model and as long as a song is playing the wallbox works fine. It just wont start it up by its self.Thanks for any help.

Maybe try cleaning the contacts on the disc in the wallbox, and check plug connections. Don't know much about seeburg steppers but on rockola steppers if the wallbox is not plugged in good with the stepper the process wont start

Here is a brief rundown of Seeburg stepper sequence:
First latter pulse pulls down the latter clapper and closes the two sets of contacts that ride on top of the clappers. One of these charges the hold magnet, the other charges the transfer relay which will remain down until the interval between latter and number pulses.

When the transfer relay falls out at the interval it transfers the next pulses to the number clapper.

Once again two sets of contacts on that clapper act to keep the hold magnet energized. The other set pulls down the two timing relays. After the last pulse one timing relay falls out while copper rings hold the other for a fraction of a second. In this instant the write-in pulse is applied and, on Tormat machines, the scan assembly is pulsed to start.

On the old electro-mechanical machines scan is accomplished when the selection lever is moved to the selected position. This part of the operation is the same from either the keyboard or the stepper.

---You need to check that the selection pin is being moved completely to the selected position when a stepper selection is made.

It is possible that dirty contacts on the stepper wheels or write-in contacts on the timing relays are weakening the pulse and not moving the pin all the way. Then, when the moving contact block's "dresser" comes by it moves the pin all the way to the selected position.

Did you just acquire this jukebox/wallbox ? Or--is this something that "just started".
What I would do is have someone play A-1, A-2, K-9, K-0, while I was observing the SAU--

Ron I did what Ron recomended and nothing,The pins don't come out at all from trying to energize from the wallbox.I have had the juke for a couple years and hooked the wallbox up about a year ago.when it was first installed it worked some times then quit working and I just lived with it but I would like to get it working properly.The caps are all new as is the 2050 tube.Is there a switch or contact in the wallbox itself that I could be overlooking.Thanks

Homer, the first thing is to determine if the stepper is working at all. You should hear a series of clicks when the wallbox is sending. The letter and then number wheels should advance and the relays should react as well.
Does any of this happen?

Yes,You can here it clicking and trying to work but the pins do not come out.

Hi Homer,
From what you have written, I suspect that you have stepper problems. All contacts must be serviced (see how to clean contacts--posted above), and checked for adjustment, as per the Service Manual--AND--the "step-up wheels" themselves must be oiled, with a drop of 20 wt. ND oil. The wheels must turn freely, and, return ALL THE WAY "home". Ron Rich

Did as you suggested,We might be getting somewhere.If you select a #10 song most of them will start from the wallbox but they play a different #10 than the one selected.K 10 plays H 10,D 10 plays B 10 etc.None of the other numbers seem to get it started.Any more suggestions.

Hi Homer,

Do you have a battery powered "continuity light " ? If so, un-plug the WOM from the phono, and connect the lamp to the ground and signal terminals on the WOM. Carefully turn the wiper to the credit position, and push K-0. Then carefully turn the wiper and check that the lamp is lighting as the wiper "wipes" each rivet. If OK--check motor timing as per service manual. If OK, you have not cleaned/adjusted the stepper correctly--Ron Rich

Got it working.I went through all the switches once more,they were all within the suggested gap and moving freely.Playing with the gaps I got it to work but play J1 every time.I have the trouble shooting guide and it says if this happens the problem is in the E or F switch.Playing with the gap in these I finally got it working,Boy are these Finicky.Thanks everyone for the help.

Homer, could you elaborate a bit on the "E and F' thing?

These boxes are not really very "finicky". Most of the problems are in the stepper and even there once the mechanics are set they aren't that critical.

BTW: The 2050 should glow deep violet when pulsing and there is a large resistor in the 2050 plate circuit. It is either 100 ohm or 47 ohm on those old boxes. There is also a large 5 mfd cap in that circuit that also must be replaced. All of these can cause miscounts if they go out of tolerance.
