Lamp (light bulbs)

by ds100h » Fri Feb 24, 2012 8:06 pm

I have a Seeburh DS100. I have been told I need a #12 lamp for the record selection lamp and a # 15 lamp for the mechanism carriage cover.

Is there any reason that I could not use these auto # 15 lamps in place of the lamps that are sold as being for a Juke box?

New box of 10 bulbs #15

6.3 Volt Bi-Pin

Thank you

Darrell,
#15 lamps, are # 15 lamps, no mater where they are used-- # 15's can not be used in place of # 12's in the jukebox--Number 12's can be used ( they will be less "brilliant") in place of the # 15's Ron Rich

Ron

I thought thats the way it was, but wanted to be safe rather than sorry.

Do you agree the #15 - 7 volt goes under the mechanism carriage cover to illuminate the "Seeburg" emblem plastic and that the #12 - 6.3 volt goes under the "Selection Playing" indicator?

I ask becuse all I have found in the manual are part numbers for the two lamps and a few different sites have stated various things. I understand you do not use a # 15 - 7 volt where a # 12 - 6.3 volt lamp goes, however you can reverse that and use a # 12 - 6.3 lamp where a #15 - 7 volt lamp goes and the result is a dimmer light.

Thanks for all your assistance and havew a great weekend! :D

Darrell,
I don't have the specs on a #15 in my book for some reason---but the actual glass size between that and the # 12 is different (G3.5 vs. G4.5)---the # 15 being the larger of the two, and it will not fit into the holder on the selection now playing indicator without a lot of "forcing" ( yes--I have seen it done--but ---)
If the # 15 is a 7 volt lamp ( going by what you have provided) --it should be dimmer on 6.3, but I know the 12's look dimmer when placed under that plastic--- # 12's also last 10 times longer ( 5000 hrs), so most operators only used #12's-- Ron Rich

Ron

That all makes perfectly good sense and explains why my juke boxes all have had # 12 lamps in both the record selection and the mechanism carriage cover sockets. The lamps lasted 10 times longer and the vendor that services the phono would save money and there also would be less service time in changing burned out lamps.

While Seeburg specs actually call for the # 15 lamp for the mechanism carriage cover, over the years most people changed to the #12 lamp for economic reasons and it has become a common belief (at least to some-including vendors that sell lamps) that the proper lamp for the mechanism carriage cover is the #12 lamp.

I guess the point is, if you want your phono all orignal use the #15 lamp and if you want economics and less work changing lamps use the # 12 lamp for the mechanism carriage cover.

Thanks for the info
Darrell
