Help needed for HF100G

by retiree235 » Sat Nov 12, 2011 7:24 am

I am new to owning a jukebox. I recently purchased a HF100G on ebay and had it shipped from Texas to CA. Everything was suppose to be working when it was shipped. However, when it arrived there were some problems. One was a loud hum which I determined to be coming from the Latch Bar Solenoid. I believe the jukebox had been modified for free play as I was able to select and play records without inserting quarters. I plugged a credit/free play box I purchased from Victory Glass to see if that would change anything. The hum persisted so I removed the free play box and hooked it back up the way it was before. After I removed the box, I tried to select some records to play. I was only able to make one selection then the latch solenoid would not energize again until I turned the power switch off and back on. Then I could make another selection, but only one, then I would have to switch the power off and on to make another selection, and so on... So I replaced the humming Latch Bar Solenoid hoping that was the problem. The loud hum stopped, but I still have to power off and on to make each selection. Any ideas as to what might be wrong? I am not an electronics person, so please make any responses as basic as possible...I do have the Seeburg Service & Parts Manual and the Installation and Operation Manuals for reference

Thanks in advance,
Leslie

Leslie,
That symptom indicates that the timing relay in the CCU is either not getting power, or that it has a burnt contact. It also could indicate an ES problem.
One would need to trouble shoot in order to find the exact cause--I would advise you to re-install that aftermarket pricing unit adapter--

Ron,
Thanks for your reply. The problem seemed to start when I removed the plug from the ES Socket and plugged the Free Play unit in. There is an orange "capacitor?" linked from the #1 & #6 pin the the ES Socket. Also the is a similar "capacitor" on the timing relay where the wire was cut and the "capacitor" was inserted. (OK, if you must know I am a woman, and a newbee, and don't know all the correct terminology) Should these be removed if I use the Free Play unit? Also, the 8 prong plug to the ES Socket has the center post broken off. Someone has marked the proper position of the plug on the socket and the plug so that it lines up right. Don't know if this could be an issue too. For now, I will clean all the contacts and reinstall the Free Play unit and see what happens.

Thanks,

Leslie,
I really don't know what you are calling a "capacitor"--there should be nothing between pins 1 & 6. (That is an incorrect method of "free playing" the phono). There should be a capacitor (.047) on the relay--soldered from terminal to terminal on the coil section itself.
As for the broken alignment pin--be extremely careful that it is aligned correctly, as it surly will cause problems, if wrong.
