Just got my first jukebox.. ever!

Just a hit a problem though that I'd appreciate some help with. When I first started up the jukebox and made a selection the carriage slid to the right and now refuses to move.

Where do I start with this???!
Many thanks
Simon

Hello Simon,
Your IMA/AMI J-120 was made under licence in Denmark by Jensen Music in 1954.
I have only worked on the Bal-Ami Super 40 not a 120 mechanism like is in your jukebox however the priciple should be the same.
I would check out any switches on the chain drive for operation, there will be a reversing switch and a reversing relay on the mechanism together with traverse and rail switches.
If you have not got a manual I suggest you obtain one in order to see the circuit diagram, Stanmann should have one for sale at

Thanks for that, Alan. I've had a read through the manual which has helped my understanding of the process a little. I've also cleaned the relays. After more experimenting I've found that the the turntable carriage only plays the A sides (as it only moves to the right). It picks up the B sides on the leftward travel. It just moves to the right and jams up agains the end of the mechanism. Do you know what the physical trigger to reverse its direction? I can't work that out from the manual.

Hi Simon,
Alan is "on holiday" for awhile, and probably won't respond for a number of days--
My guess is ( never having seen that unit), there is a "peg" somewhere that sticks out that operates a "reversing switch". This can be almost anywhere, but it must be in the direct path of mechanism travel. You will need to either locate it, or the reversing switch itself ( which could be on or off the "traveling" part), and determine why it is not functioning.

Thanks guys for all your help. I managed to get this sorted (thanks, Harry!). In the end it was simple: the RH cog had slipped forward and the chain spigot was jamming against the carriage. When I moved it back... success!
cheers
