Seeburg LPC480 scans twice and stops

I have been struggling with a Seeburg LPC 480, it would scan twice and stop with out picking up the selection. Charged the Tormat with a "D" battery and it still would not pick up records, in checking the read out I tried a new 6X4 with no difference, but I did notice that both OA2 did not glow blue as much as I remember. Actually the out side one by the edge of the Tormat housing had some glow and the other one looked dark, switching the tubes around and that did not change the symptoms, the inner one was still looking dark.

I have Check Tormat grounds and cleaned and lubed plate/contact block. Checked the Detent Switch and reversing relay, all the plugs and pins on the Tormat, etc.

So then I was checking voltages in the area of the OA2 and 6X4 and then the OA2 tubes started to have a good glow, (I had the tubes out several times so I don't think it is just a poor connection on the tube pin sockets) so tried a selection and Juke Box was now working perfect.

Could not get Juke to quit working again, l looked for poor connection, checked diodes and etc in that area so buttoned it back up. The Jukebox played for 2 weeks but then developed the same problem of scanning and not picking selections so I ordered all new Tubes from Victory Glass and installed them and now I still have the same problem.

So I am thinking I must have a bad cap or something in that power supply area of the OA2 (or something other then a 6X4 because I have had 2 new ones in it) that is keeping the OA2 from firing up at full voltage.

Have you ever seen this type problem? Any Idea would sure be appreciated.

I --would suspect that you have a bad tube socket--
Questions--did you use a known good, D cell, on BOTH sides ? is the "detent" function, or the "read-out" function failing ?

Ron, I used several fresh D Cell batteries and I tried polarity both ways on both the RCA tormat plugs and never could get it charged to play, I agree on the bad tube socket so I have looked them over and removed and reinstalled the tubes several times, then also installed new tubes. Pretty sure it s not reading out. I Was getting the reading from the bottom TEST PLUG when it started to work and worked for several weeks so I have cleaned up the pins on that test plug. Was looking for the DETENT voltage with the old Simpson 260 analog, do you know what 2 pins for sure will give you that reading?

The Juke plays fine if you trip it manually or push either of the relays in the tormat when scanning. What about a Seeburg NEON Test Lamp that is referred to in the trouble shooting guide, is there a home made way to put one together? Are they just a regular 115v test light?

Thanks

It's been a long while since I used a "Simpson" on a LPC--but the two pins that they tell you to "watch the flash of the neon tester", should do it--
The tester is a neon #NE 51 or equiv. lamp in series with a 330k resistor--
Check that the detent switch is clean, free of pits, and adjusted as per the manual--also check the pins that ride the TMU, to be sure that they are not "dug out" and that there is still silver left on them--also, clean the TMU with a NON abrasive, safety solvent ONLY ( Do not spray the records !!). What is the recommended wattage rating for the 330k resistor? I'm going to make a test lamp, and don't know whether to get a 1/4 watt, or a 1 watt, or anything in between.

1/2 watt--will get warm, if used for a period of time-- Ron Rich
