Rob is correct--the cradle is frozen due to lack of use/ correct lubrication.
The first thing I would do is saturate it at all moving points with 20 wt. ND oil. After doing that, make a "reverse selection", and stop the motor just after it detents. At that point, turn the motor coupler by hand in the direction it won't play, keeping a small amount of pressure on the cradle assembly. You will feel it "release", then you can add slightly more pressure as you are turning the coupler, till it "shifts". Once it has shifted, oil the other "rods" on it, and play a few sides, that require it to transfer back and forth a few times. After that, it should be OK.
DO NOT "FORCE" it--you will bend something !!
