Rockola 449

by johnnyanglia » Sun Mar 16, 2014 5:41 pm

Hi everyone, I am new to the site and I would like to start off by asking a question if I may. My Rockola 449 was working ok until a couple of weeks ago, now it has developed a fault and I was wondering if someone could give me some advice. When I select a record it is logged and the information is sent to the selector wheel on the right hand side which spins and engages accordingly, unfortunately that is all that happens, the information does not seem to be sent to the right hand side of the box. The record carousel still turns when I use the lever to install new records so I know for a fact that nothing is seized. Thanks in advance for any advice, Johnny.

Hi
It may be that when a selection lever is moved into the play position on the write in side that the wobble plate solenoid is not energising. This will energise the play control relay which starts the record magazine and the read out arm. There is a copper u shaped spring at the wobble plate solenoid which aids it, it may need to be adjusted or may be missing/fallen off. If you manually activate the wobble plate solenoid it should start the record magazine, check that wires have not come loose here

Hi Johnny,
I agree with clones, although it's just a guess, except, IMHO, one can (and/or should) not attempt to "adjust" that "copper" spring. Please read: "Atten. Newbies", above this post !

Hi guys, back again ! I tried pushing the solenoid as suggested but still no luck . I have uploaded a video to Youtube showing what is going on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84brWxrSBV8

As you can see the selector lever(?) is spinning but nothing is happening on the homing wiper(?) sider. Would I be right in saying that the fault is therefore either in the solenoid or wobble plate ?. Thanks again for your advice so far, and thanks in anticipation for any future advice, best wishes, Johnny.

Hi Johnny,
That's a real nice vid--however is shows nothing that would help me in understanding your problem--PLEASE-- read "stickies" above--use the terms in the service manual, and we may have a chance to understand the problem, and find the "fix" for you--Ron Rich

Hi
In addition to what Ron said, i would say check wobble plate switch and solenoid, plug connections and play control relay, also check the accumalator relay and adr relay in the credit unit as thy are involved in the process and check associated connections

Sorry I am not sure what you mean by "stickies".

Hi Johnny,
No problem--
All of the "informational" posts above with the "light bulb symbol".
