x560 w-1 zenith microtouch

Hey - sorry for a question on my first post but I just found a super nice looking x 560 w-1 zenith microtouch Suitcase on the side of the road with the original pamphlet still attached to it.

I plugged it in and power works but the turntable doesn't spin correctly. It starts to spin then stops.

How do I remove the turntable mechanism to check out the internals? I dont see any obvious screws etc..

I have no knowledge of these so any help is appreciated -thanks

After decades of neglect, those changers require a complete teardown and cleaning, plus relubing, in order to operate reliably.
Additionally, the rubber drive will need replacement, and possibly the motor mounts as well.
There are no "simple fixes" here.
And tearing down to overhaul it requires knowledge of adjustments and proper re-assembly - the average person does not know these things, nor can it be discussed without writing a book's worth of posts on here.

Best to locate a tech experienced on the 1200 series changers.

You can remove the E-clip that holds the platter on and clean the idler wheel with alcohol which may get it working but Matt is correct. After 40+ years it will need to be restored by someone who is well versed in phonographs and changers. In addition, the amplifier will need restored as some of those components are way out of spec by now.

The super-light tracking force on those Zenith's requires that EVERYTHING in the trip mechanism is fully serviced - and properly.
This means going into areas of the changer's mechanism that a novice can easily damage from careless handling.

And if the rest of it is in good shape I recommend having it restored. It will then give you years of enjoyment without frustration. If on the other hand you only want to tinker and learn and are not worried about the outcome go for it. Just remember, even though this is solid-state you can still get knocked on your ass if you touch the wrong thing. BTW, these were one of the best changers made for the mass market in my humble opinion and they are easy on your record collection.

This changer was manufactured by VM Corporation. Gary Stork has parts, and manuals for this changer. Likely will need cleaning and lubrication as needed where needed. It is gentle on records in good order, tracks at 2 grams.
