Hi I was called in to help a friend troubleshoot his seeburg ds100h tube jukebox. It keeps playing same record over and over. We googled this problem up and discovered the most common cause of this issue is the clutch and safety plunger. We cleaned and lubed these devices until they seemed to be moving freely. Fired the box back up and same problem. We started looking for problems in the pulse receiver. All tubes checked ok. I had no voltage at the d&e terminals for write in test. I did discover a diode cr502 that was open. It appears to be in some kind of clamping circuit in the write in area. We finished up for the night on that note, and I haven't yet changed out that old germanium diode. Could this diode be the problem? It seems reverse biased to the plate of the second oa2 tube. Any other ideas where I might look for a solution? Thanks

Hi,
The first thing you must do is determine if your problem is electrical or mechanical. The easiest way to do this is to hold the detent release lever down, at the point after the record has played and it has electrically lifted the lever. If the cam continues to turn, your problem is mechanical. If you feel a "pulse" on the lever, the problem is electrical.
The diode is most likely germanium. It can be replaced with a 1N4004. Zs it is in the "write-in" circuit, It is most likely not, the cause of this problem.

If my schedule permits, I will probably be driving over to my friends again this weekend or early next week for another look. We will start with your test to determine if it is mechanical or electrical. I know information is pretty limited, but if you were going to guess, where would you think the problem would most likely be if it turns out to be an electrical issue? I would like to be prepared to do a little troubleshooting while there.

Ron we held the detent release lever down as you suggested. We did not feel a pulse. The clutch continued to turn. We were not sure what you meant by cam? Each of 3 times we tried this test the carriage moved and it played a different record. I think you might have us close. What should we try next? Hope I'm not being a pain.

OK--watch the detent lever work--it should be pulled up by the coil, and it should fall down freely, once the power is removed.
From what you have written, I assume it's not falling down, as it should--lack of proper oil, OR, the brass "center" of the core stop has broken off and is "sticking" inside the coil/plunger assembly. Ron Rich

Ron you did it. We owe you big time. Cleaned and lubed around the detent lever and it is playing 45 records fine now. Only problem now is when you play a 33 1/3 record it loads the record ok but plays at 45 speed. This is ok if you are a fan of Donald Duck. My friend is so happy he plans to just live with this problem and stick with 45 records. Thanks again.

Glad you got it--as for the 33 speed--is the "Autospeed" in the phono ? If so, "tube" or "transistor" type?-- Is it connected ?

Hi Ron, I just wanted to personally thank you for your assistance in getting my DS100H Seeburg. My Seeburg calls for a "TASU2" 33 1/3 Auto Speed Unit”, which is missing in my unit, hench the Donald Duck effect! If I may ask, would a "TASU1" 33 1/3 Auto Speed Unit and Seeburg "TASU2" 33 1/3 Auto Speed Unit” be interchangeable? If so would there be any issues I would need to deal with such as any alterations and if so what?

I am making an assumption (sometimes this is a bad thing) that the "TASU2" 33 1/3 Auto Speed Unit” is a minor upgrade from the "TASU1" 33 1/3 Auto Speed Unit", I thank you very much for all the help you have provided.

The 33 TSAU-1 and -2 are interchangeable as long as you do not wish to use the DS (ears)speaker switching, that was added to the unit.
These will also replace the tube type 33ASU's. However, do not use a tube type in a newer phono, due to a fire hazard. Ron Rich

Thank you for helping me understand the difference between the TASU1 and 2. Do you know where a person could find a reliable SEEBURG 33 1/3 TRANSISTORIZED AUTO-SPEED TASU2 UNIT- and/or a SEEBURG 33 1/3 TRANSISTORIZED AUTO-SPEED MANUAL FOR THE TASU2?

Check the "announcements" --"where to find--"section above--the DS Service manual will cover the TASU, and the "usual suspects", selling parts, listed there, will have the units--they may not be functioning, but it's NBD to repair them, as log as the transformer is good (and most of these guy's will warranty that the transformer is good--- BUT ASK !--as they all sell "as-is" only) Ron Rich

I have been enjoying the operation of my Juke Box, but, I noticed it plays all number and letter selections with the exception of A6.

Looking through the trouble shooting guide I do not see this problem described.

Any ideas how I should resolve this issue?

IF, and only IF, that is the only one it misses--you either have some "stuff" on that Tormat contact rivet, or the gold has been removed from it.
Take a Pencil eraser and clean it. NOTHING more abrasive ! Ron Rich
