Hello, I am new here, first post. I just picked up a Seeburg USC1 and was disappointed to find that the Purple effect on the back is created by a purple plastic piece mounted behind the title strip cover. This was the whole reason I wanted this particular model. I really like that Purple glow. Anyway, mine was replaced with a clear, broken and cracked piece of plexiglass that does not even fit right. Could someone kindly find me a picture of the ACTUAL part that goes here. I have given up trying to find an original replacement and would settle for making one but I have no idea what it is supposed to look like or how it is supposed to fit properly. Any other advice you could offer would be appreciated also. The unit does play but I can tell there are some things that need tweaked.

I doubt you will find an original--they were poor from the get-go--
The USC-2 uses the same piece, a little darker and made from better "plastic". The factory subb'ed this part soon after the last of the USC-1's were produced. The parts books show a reasonable illustration of this part. Did you try the above listed suppliers, in this section, of our forum ? Ron Rich

Welcome to the forum.
If you wish to change the colour or renew what is already there your best option is to use theatrical gel, you can buy this off of Ebay or maybe buy some from a local theater.
Gel can be tapped to any of the flouescent tubes.

In this case, Seeburg used a plastic "filler" in the gap between the "band-shell lid", and the title strip holder. This was about a 3 inch gap, filled with a form fitting, plastic molded item. They positioned it over the flour. lamp, which deteriorated the plastic--very quickly. They realized the error of their ways, and used a much more UV tolerant material on the later phono's. Ron

Gels as mentioned are probably your best bet but another option may be to use a piece of 1/8" acrylic (aka plexiglass) if you need something flat and rigid. Acrylic comes in transparent colors to include purple. It's easy to cut and machine. You could also use purple gel filter material taped to a piece of clear acrylic. Whichever route you go you may have to do some experimenting with the bulb's intensity to get the amount of color projection you want.

I think you may be missing the point--this "plastic" was special--it was either extruded, or die-cast in an odd, thick, convex/concave ( depends on which side you are looking at), shape. A flat plastic won't fit here, as the shape is very specific--the color, of course, can be matched (or changed) by the use of gels. If/when this plastic is no longer viable, any spills, at all, on the flat program glass are sure to enter the playing mechanism, and "mess it up"---Ron Rich
