Phono cables for a Magnavox Micromatic 1SC-271R

The console works great, replaced the needle, BUT.

When we first got it- this static in the right speaker would show up, after the thing had been running awhile. I opened it up, saw the phono/RCA cable running from the turntable to the amp was wrapped right around one of the tubes. I got it off over to the side, problem went away. Until last night.

Now, is there a modern replacement for these cables? They were pretty standardized across the line right? Something shielded or at least longer so it isn't so tight up against the heated elements of the amplifier? It'd be the equivalent of a current RCA cable, right?

Thanks.

rj,
I doubt the cable is the source of your noise, unless it's "bouncing" against the tube, or, it has burned through the wires. If either of those is the case, and the cable has RCA connectors on both ends, simply remove it, and take it to any good "electronics store", and they will have a replacement. If it is "flat" in construction, it is un-shielded. If "round", it's shielded. IMHO, it is a waste of money to pay for "gold standard" cables. You may want to clean the female RCA ground connection with crocus cloth NOT "sandpaper", prior to installing the new cable. Ron Rich

It might be a bad (or dirty) connection in that tube socket itself.
