Rockola Capri 2 model 414

by Raven65 » Mon Aug 09, 2010 6:16 am

When I make a selection the wiper assembly?, spins around the
Selector wheel? I'm not sure what these are called. That is all that happens. The gripper is at the turntable. The needle arm looks like it stopped halfway through the record. Turntable not spinning. It seems all locked up. Turning off the machine resets selection buttons.
First machine. I'm a total novice. How do I troubleshoot?
Nothing is moving except what I described. Thanks, raven

Raven,
IMHO, the best advise that I can give you, and any "newbie", is to un-plug the phono, and purchase a good copy of the service manual, prior to doing anything else. (SM available from http://www.alwaysjukin.com and other sources)
After READING the service manual, check all fuses to be sure they are the correct size and type. At that point, if you have basic electro/mechanical skills, you will have an understanding as to what has gone wrong, and it is not hard to figure out what needs to be done. Force nothing, as you can do major damage !! Ron Rich

Thanks Ron. What's the best way to start learning about ohms, capacitors, valve tubes, etc.
Where do I start checking? Any starter books on how to do this? I appreciate your help. Thanks again, raven

Raven,
If you can "self-teach" there are lots of books on the subject, and I suppose today you can "google" most of it--
Also, the old way--school-- Ron Rich

Machinery as the 414?, so I can start cross referencing
