Wurl 3100 Americana - questions about refurbishing

Hi,
First I want to say thanks to everyone for the tips on transporting a jukebox. Got my 400 pound obsession in the basement now, and it is full of promise! I now have a copy of the instruction manual as well and it has been somewhat helpful but I still have questions.

It was pretty dirty and has paint splatter on the top, title cover, and some of the chrome. Some of the chrome is pitted (just like my 1966 Chrysler!), and it was just generally dusty. The keys were all pretty sticky, and when I turned it on, there was some hum (assuming recap is in order). Also- there was initially only sound out of the left channel and the volume pot was pretty scratchy.

I've gone through outside surfaces with 409 and have picked up most of the dust. I got most of the paint splatter off the chrome, but not the title cover or top of the machine. I replaced the turntable motor mounts as they were sagging to the point that the motor was resting on the surface below (one was even decomposed and not even connected). I've cleaned pots and keys with DeOxit and they all function much better. I jiggled the wires to the cartridge and now there seems to be sound out of both channels, although it occasionally drops.

I don't know the protocol on combining multiple questions about a single machine, but here goes. I hope the wizards of phonoland will be able to help me bring this Americana back to its glory!

1. I have to hold down the button on the amp - near the power switch (is that a reset switch?) to get the machine to cycle through the record load cycle. This obviously is not standard operating procedure. Alternatively I can cycle by holding the transfer switch (see no. 2 below).

2. The machine won't "end" a record. The tonearm will just ride at the end of the record. I have to either manually lift the transfer switch and hold it up while it cycles through a record, or hold down the reset switch. I found this problem in the troubleshooting portion of the manual and it says to adjust the switch with the screw, which I have done - to the end of the adjustment range - but it still doesn't consistently end a record. I have also taken the switch out and sprayed it with DeOxit and manually actuated it several times. It will very occasionally end a record early. I think this and 1 above are related.

3. A few times, the machine has "ejected" a record across the room while trying to load it. This only happens if I'm holding down the reset button.

4. I can't tell if the machine has been set up for free play. The previous owner couldn't remember. Since all of my plays have involved either actuating the transfer switch manually or depressing the reset switch, I don't know if it is in free play or not.

5. Is there a place to get a good diagram of the circuit boards? The images in the manual that I have are washed out beyond usefulness.

6. Are there any upgrades people do when recapping the circuit board? Or any other improvements I should consider to improve lifespan or performance of the machine?

7. Lubrication: I am going to get the blue 3in1 oil as I have seen that mentioned in several online posts. The manual isn't totally clear on all of the lubrication points and type of lubricant to use so any guidance would be appreciated.

8. Is there a way to clear out a bunch of selections (e.g. when the kids start pressing buttons!).

9. Was the original title strip cover plexiglass or glass? The current one is plexiglass, but I found one piece of broken glass in the bottom of the machine.

I can see why people are attracted to jukeboxes- the mechanics are beautiful, yet the electronics (at least on this one) seem pretty simple. I'm looking forward to bringing this one back to its former glory.

Thanks!
RJ
