Rockola 440 - No write in

by stangbat » Fri Jul 22, 2011 7:11 pm

Edit: Got it to write in. Went back and cleaned the contacts and it works. Not sure if everything is quite right, I have some more checking to do.

Newbie here. I'm working on a Rockola 440 and I'm running out of ideas and looking for help. From what I can tell so far, after making a selection, it won't write in. The jukebox is set for free play, it looks like someone wired it so that the select single and select album lights are always on. You can make a selection and it locks, but once it is made it just sits there and never writes in. I've cleaned the contacts on the selector switches that energize the write in relay (at least I think I cleaned the right ones).

If I manually trigger the write-in relay, the write-in carriage assembly moves fine. So it doesn't appear that there is a problem with the motor. I've checked the write-in relay solenoid and I get a reading of 27 ohms, so I believe the coil itself is fine.

If I manually trip a selector lever on the carriage, it is read, the record loads, the amp comes on, and normal play starts.

I have a manual and schematics, I guess I'm just missing a key step somewhere and not looking in the right place. Thanks!

Ran through quite a few selections and from a mechanical perspective, all seems good. It selects, loads, plays, and unloads just fine.

Now the problem seems to be the amp and the phono input. The left channel doesn't seem to be outputting anything and there is no input from the stylus. I have a feeling that the phono input wire is part of the problem as it is in sorry shape.
