I am really trying. I did some more reading in the trouble shooting guides and manuals. I believe the problem is in the selection control box. There are two relays in there in-cased in clear plastic. When I type in a selection for the first half of the B side records there is no movement in the relays. I tried switching the relays and no change. Does this mean there is a problem with one of the diodes?

Hi
have you cleaned the relay contacts on the stop relay and reset relay in the credit unit as its these that provide power to the hammer coil, although i can't see why it works on the a sides and just half of the b sides, but anyway its an outside chance, no harm in trying this. For making selections relay k6 in the control box should energize when you press the first digit and second digit should energize the solenoid, and pressing the third digit should energize K7 in the selection control box which then activates the write in relay, maybe clean the connectors going into the side of the control box and check the three fuses inside it, also i had a problem a few months ago with a 448 whereby i could only make selections ending in zero, the cause was not the selection control box but bad contact at the keyboard. If K6 and K7 dont activate the machine wont write in and make a selection

Well it seems as though I am on the right track. You gave me a few things to look into, I appreciate that a lot. I am going to take a break for toninght and re-visit it in the morning. Thanks again!

OK I checked the fuses before my last post and they where good. I followed the above advise and cleaned a number of different contacts including those in the keyboard and removing and cleaning of the circuit board in the selection control box. I also insured all of the associated plugs where good and tight. After everything dried I re assembled and tested. Success!! I am not sure exactly which plug or contact was the culprit however everything seems to be good in Juke Box land for now. I truly thank you folks for the advise given, I may have not been able to get it done otherwise.

Well the jukebox has been working overall pretty well. We have been really enjoying it. In the mean time I have cleaned all of the records, and changed a few out. I do however have another challenge I would like to address. The volume knob on the back can not be adjusted, otherwise all of the speakers go haywire. I have encountered similar problems on other older radios in the past. Also if the volume control box is jiggled or bumped it will cause the same problems that the volume knob does. I have to keep jiggling the two until all the speakers start working but the volume may not be where we want it. Is this a simple matter of cleaning something or tighten something up, or is a bigger problem? Thanks!

Hi
As well as the above i recently had a rockola 453 whereby the volume control knob would not work correctly and the volume would vary and fade in and out, the problem in that case was the large canned capacitor needed to be replaced as well as caps on the power supply board,

Clones,
Unless you replaced these caps, yourself, I'm betting that whomever did so, also cleaned the volume control, at the same time.
I do the same on every amp rebuild-- Ron Rich

Ron
I replaced them myself along with cleaning the volume control so i can't be sure which was the cure, most likely the volume control, sure the caps were well overdue a change

I cleaned the volume switch, seems to be working fine now. I also removed the volume control motor. I am assuming that this was intended to work with some type of remote. I do not think I will need it for what I am doing and it makes the volume switch easier to turn.
