Hello earthlings, I have a 1948 Philco turntable that I inhereted. I have since gained considerable interest in it. I found some 78s and tried to play them. The records play but I can hardly hear them. Where do I start looking to fix this.

What kind of cartridge is in the turntable, and what do you have this unit connected to? Check your cartridge and their wires and what inputs where you have it plugged into. --BB

Hey BB, thanks for the reply. The cartridge I have is a shure crystal pickup cartridge. The part number is P305/35-2671. Im not sure what you mean by inputs its plugged into? Sorry, new to this. If you can further explain would be great. As far as the unit itself, its a 115v power source.

Is this just the turntable, or is it a complete phonograph with an amp and speaker?

Either the cartridge is shot, or the amp needs repair.

Hello, Thanks for the reply. Do you know of anywhere to get a cartridge replacement or possible rebuild?

Who knows, the cartridge could still be functional, but on something that old, I would still replace ALL the capacitors and maybe check the resistors to see if they're way out of tolerence also. The cartridge may be the most expensive repair, but caps and resistors are fairly cheap. --BB
