by Neophone » Thu Jan 04, 2007 11:32 am

Folks,

Does anyone have a copy of the instruction manual for a K-2? I just picked up my "new" K-2 today-and I need all the help I can get  !

Thanks. Oh and anyone familiar with breaking down the tone-arm?

Regards,
J.

I don't know if this would help, but there's a "generic" Columbia operator's manual on Nipperhead --

In fact, I see that the K-2 and other models are mentioned in the manual, so that may have been the only one available at the time.

Joe,
How can i be sure I've got a K-2? It loks like the machine on some record sleeves I have and a 1921 Columbia Christmas catalog, was there more than one model with the same cabinet?
Mine has four springs and the non-set stop. It has shelves for albums not the push-button record storage sysytem.

J.

According to Baumbach's "Columbia Phonograph Companion, Vol. 2," the K-2 was offered in a choice of red mahogany, brown mahogany, satin walnut or fumed, golden or English oak, and was supplied with SEVEN albums--(so 7 shelves), holding 12 records each. It was equipped with the non set automatic stop.
Based on the illustration, the tops of the corner posts were embellished with oval carved "rosettes." Cabinet dimensions were 46 5/16 by 21 1/2 by 19 3/8.

In contrast, the similar looking L-2 was available in a choice of English brown mahogany or American walnut (satin finish), each with satinwood inlay.
NINE or TEN albums--( 9 or 10 shelves), depending on the date of manufacturer were included. It also had the non set automatic stop, and the cabinet dimensions were 47 1/2 by 21 7/8 by 19 1/2. The corner posts, according to the illustration provided were different, with horizontal lines carved in the wood, running top to bottom, and no rosettes--as in the illustration from the operator's manual, above.

Joe,

Thanks,
I wasn't sure of more than one model shared the same cabinet. The L-2 is the one I really love-some day....
