Magnavox Micromatic Changer Wanted

by Phonomike » Thu Jan 03, 2008 10:53 pm

Hi, I know most of you know me on here, my name is Michael and I have a 1963 Magnavox Astro-Sonic console. I had a perfectly working Micromatic Changer in there. It actually has the flip over type cartridge where the whole cartridge flips over. There was one 78 that I have that I played a lot around Christmas time, so I was flipping the catridge over a lot. The stereo side was working very well, all the way up until a couple weeks ago. If the needle was in seperate, I would just be able to order a new needle and snap it in myself. my previous Micromatic Turntables where like that, But, this one is different and I wouldn't know how to change it myself.

does anyone have an extra one of these turntables that the don't need anymore? I'm willing to buy another Micromatic or Imperial Micromatic off of someone as long as it works. It must work perfectly, and it must spin at the correct speeds, and all the automatic features must work. Lastly, the little brush must still be intact, because mine no longer has the brush. It's is the older Micromatic, with a gold forearm, and the black curved tone arm, if anyone has a changer like this that they're willing to sell, let me know

Thanks,
Michael

Hey Michael,

I have a small tube model Magnavox console with a similar cartridge. Of course, it would have to be inconveniently stacked end-on-end ontop of an Astro-Sonic, which puts it up close to the ceiling...LOL. At least the sliding lid is open and I can climb up there and access the turntable. I've got seven units stacked like that since there is no room. When I get back from rehearsal, I'll give it the hairy eyeball and see what I find. Why replace the whole turntable when it' only a cartridge issue? Several cartridges will fit, and I'm sure you can find an alternative. I'm also sure I saw a similar cartridge at Garage-a-Records and do have a printout with all the pictures.

That will give me something to do this afternoon and keep me out of trouble for a little while...LOL -BB

Hi there.. Did you get to look at that changer yet? did you find anything? I totally hear what your saying. I have dozen extra Micromatic changers laying around, and none of them work, as good as that one does. I would hate to have to replace the changer because it works perfectly, it just needs a new cartridge, it works on the 78 side only, when you put it on the stereo side and try to play a record, it'll play, but sounds really fuzzy. I just wanted know how to install the cartridge myself, I would have to have someone do it for me. I'm afraid If I tried I'd mess it up even more, and I don't want to do that because those wires that connect the cartridge are very old, and I don't want to mess anything up, it must be 45 years old you know? well, I know theres a model and identification number, and I'm sure I can find I cartridge easy, the problem is trying to find someone to install it for me.

Have a wonderul day
Michael

I am located in Northeaster Pennsylvania. I just finished school and have more time on my hands, so now would be the time to get that 1963 Magnavox Working again. Stereo works, just new Micromatic Changer needed.
