Hi, can anyone recommend any Cajun recordings on 78. First off, where could I buy any and secondly can anyone give me some names and titles to try for. I have very limited knowledge about this style of music and would like to aquire some examples on 78. Can anyone help.

Thanks

Go to internetarchive.org and do a search in audio for Cajun.

Hi Gary,
the actual 78's are extremely rare and expensive. The first recordings were made in 1928 and 1929 and some more in the early 30's.
Try finding cd's of Amede Ardion, Denis MGee, Joe and Cleoma Falcon.

Here's a few good cd compilations available from Amazonand elsewhere:
Cajun Dance Party: Fais Do-Do
I'm Never Comin' Back: The Roots of Zydeco
Complete Recordings 1929-1930 ~ Dennis McGee
The Cajun Legend: Best of Nathan Abshire ~ Nathan Abshire
Cajun, Vol. 1: Abbeville Breakdown 1929-1939
Le Gran Mamou: A Cajun Music Anthology
Cajun Music Anthology, Vol. 2: Raise Your Window
Cajun Music Anthology, Vol. 3: The Historic Victor Bluebird Sessions
Cajun Louisiane 1928-1939

Below is the contact info for the best Cajun record dealer in the US. He also deals other rare ethno/blues/string band stuff, but Cajun is his particular love.
