Rockola 464

by clones » Mon Jul 16, 2012 11:19 am

Hi
I am working on the rockola 464, i have a manual, but i am running into a few problems. The selection and playing is fine, but a number of the pins on the wobble plate won't cancel, it seems they are a bit stiff, any way to remedy this. Also for some strange reason when the last record is selected( index 197) and it only happens with this selection, the B side plays fine, the record is selected brought to the turntable and then stops, the only way to bring it through the playing procedure and return the record and gripper arm back is to move the service switch from open to scan, has anyone come accross this before

Question--when you say that the pins won't cancel--is this only when it is the last pin that needs to be canceled ?
As for the "197" problem--check the adjustment of the read-out arm in relation to the "carry-over" track (might just be "dirty" at that point). Ron Rich

Hi
I am just trying diffferent selections at random, some will cancel and others will not, from looking at it the ones that won't cancel they appear to be a bit stiff, you can see the solenoid operating and attempting to cancel it, for some of them i have manually wiggled them up and down to try and loosen them and its worked in some instances. Can any lubricate be applied to the wobble plate pins, i wouldn't be looking forward to taking it apart, as they are very diddicult to line up and reassemble

When you say to check the adjustment of the read-out arm in relation to the "carry-over, how do i do this

From what you have stated, I suspect that the small "U" shaped copper "helper spring" is either broken,or missing, at the top of the "pinbank".
The purpose of this spring is to relieve tension on the wobble plate, when only one pin remains to be "reset".
If I re-call correctly, this is shown in the Service Manual, but if not, it is for sure, in the parts manual. Both the adjustment for the spring, and the read-out contact arm, are also in the Service Manual-- I would strongly advise that you do some more reading, before proceeding any further.
If "lubrication" is necessary, a very small amount of "food grade silicone" may be used--caution, do not get this on the contact rings ! Ron Rich

Hi
Ron, i carried out the adjustments you suggested and that sorted out the problems, so the jukebox is selecting 100% and and also canceling properly
thanks
