Rockola 429 Home Switch?

Hello all,
I am trying go through each part of my R/O 429 both to learn about the operation and make sure everything is there before i put everything back in the cabinet. I believe the gripper motor and all gears, cams, and micro switches are lined up correctly according to the manual. I turned my attention to the "Home Switch" portion of the manual. Oddly enough, I can't find it! The book shows it at the bottom of selector drum labeled "F" on page 10. However, my machine doesn't have one. There are three wires that were cut near there. They are blue, green, and orange. Does this model have a home switch? Am I overlooking it? Does it sound like its been removed?

Some models do not use it--is it shown in the parts book??--if so, it's missing !
Have fun finding one--I had an awful time finding one about 8-10 months ago--

Ron, yes the book shows one. At least it speaks about it and shows it in some drawings. I cant figure out why it would be removed. Nothing else appears to be missing. And yes, I've noticed Google does little good in finding one. I guess I could buy a selector and hope it has one on it! Is there any other models that use the same style? That info. would be good in case I run across other missing pieces.

I am not as familiar with all the variances in RO phonos, but I understand they used that for a few models, then added another "ring" on the read-out arm side to eliminate that switch. I do know how it can be broken, ( do not axk !)--all it takes is a little push "backwards" when it's in the "parked position", and "snap" ! BTW--IMHO, eBay is the last place I would look for that switch--read the above information & sticky posts--Ron Rich

Thanks for the info! I just emailed a guy to see if he has one available. Hopefully it will work out. Those three wires I mentioned were tied together when I removed it. So I assumed they were just cut for some reason and patched back. I suppose the switch is what they were for!. By the way, can, or should the unit be ran with out it?

Going from my great, but not too long memory, that is only a "carry-over" switch, that serves to stop the read-out motor, after all selections have been played. I have no idea why it had three wires there, unless one is just a "jumper" ? If I am correct, the only problem you will have, in operating it without the switch is, the motor will not stop- Ron Rich

Yep, that is what is happening! I applied some power, no selections are made (that I'm aware of) and the magazine and read out carriage along with the turn table are just spinning. They never stop! Since I'm not sure that my accumulator or buttons are working, i can manually trip a selector lever and the read out carriage will stop on it but nothing else. that is where the cycle ends. I'm pretty sure this points to many more issues as well! The journey continues.

If a "pin is pulled", the mech should stop at that pin and start the gripper motor picking up the record--the missing
switch should have no effect here ( unless it is open--which would prevent the mechanism motor from starting--)
Question ?? The "three wires" are two of them by chance the same color ?--has someone twisted all three together??

If I recall correctly, the wires appear to have been cut. Or something that was between them was removed. They are blue, green and orange. Right now, each color is tied together. Blue to blue, etc. Those three wires trace back to a plug going into the control box, the other end is going into the selector. Hope that answers your question.

Nope--now you have messed up my feeble mind--sounds as if there are six wires ??
If I--recall correctly, that switch looked to be one half of the A-B switch----

I think you are right, those color wires appear to be going to the A-B switch. maybe this picture will tell you what I'm talking about. Notice the three tied together connections.

If I remember right, the "home switch" isn't really a switch. It is a void in the copper rings on the selector disc. Should be easy to find. Just rotate magazine until it is indexed to home position and look.

You do remember--right--and wrong --all at the same time--earlier mechs had a switch, later ones the "ring void"---
