445 success and a question

by Drjeck » Mon Jan 23, 2012 3:22 am

My rockola 445 is now playing records and all mechanisms are in working order....but the sequences still need work and I've not messed with the selection system. Amp sounds okay. A friend took a look/listen and suggested I buy a new cartridge, which I did.

The selection system is intimidating, so I've arranged a visit by an expert. I don't want to screw it up, but I am really curious about a couple of things: 1) when I switch the lever to "operate" mode, "G - 8" lights up every time. When I push selection buttons, nothing happens until I press G-8, then it buzzes loudly. Do you know why this happens? 2) I'm tempted to purchase one of those amp rebuild kits. I'm fairly handy and am encouraged by my success so far, but I don't want to get in over my head. Are those rebuild kits fairly straightforward, or is significant expertise required?

Thanks....go niners!

49ers lost :(
Cap kits require the ability to read schematics, and ID parts--both "old style" and "new style", plus good soldering techniques.
Plus, just replacing the caps does not guaranty a fully working amp, as there are other items that at least, should be tested.
As for your "G-8" problems--no idea--- but suggest that you turn it off and leave it off till someone who does know has a chance to look at it.
