AMI R89 central control computer is showing "Err 1" in the display. Does anyone know what that error code means? Also, I'd just love to know how to free play this machine. Unfortunately I don't have the manual for this particular machine on hand but would appreciate any input you all might be willing to give. Thanks, Alan

Hi Alan, Jim here Error 1 Checksum fault indicates Factory Settings for programing codes were loaded into ram when power was applied. Could be a defective assembly, severe electrical noise, lighting, low battery, etc. I recomend you get you a manual for your machine on ebay cheaper here. Then check ERROR CODE LIST and then if you need help I will help you as best as I can over the phone. I also will sell you a manual if you desire. Give me a call at 302-698-5437 if you have any questions. Good Luck with your machine. I just rebuilt a R89 last month for this seasons sale, they are really pretty with the litlle 73 lamps. Regards Jim

Hi Alan,

Jim is correct with the error code. Your best option is to test the battery, if this is low replace it. Check it out with no power to the board.

With regards to the free play.
Go into programing mode. service switch set to service, press down popular and key in three 0's (if three dashes come up you are in programing. Enter popular 27, type in 255 and press popular(it will take you to location 28) now press popular untill location 99 and you come out of programing.

Switch service switch back to on and 255 will be displayed on the display. It is now on free play.
