Siemans Sitop Smart Transformer

by DoghouseRiley » Thu Sep 12, 2013 9:13 pm

I was very kindly given by a subscriber to another message board an unwanted new transformer;
Input 230v/120v 1.15A/2.1A 50/60Hz
Output DC 24v /5A
There is a screw adjustment from 22.8v to 28v.
I had intended to use it on my Rock-Ola 507 wallbox/ipod conversions, to replace the rather antique 240v AC/ 24V DC one I was using which is the size of a half brick and weighs probably more.

However, although it powers all the lights. When I press the first selection button in, it clicks and locks and the 1st button indicator lights, but pressing the 2nd button nothing happens. Turning off the power resets the box.
I've given up trying to use it and will continue to use the old one, but I'm curious as to why it didn't work.

Riley,
A "transformer" can only deliver AC volts--not DC ? Also an "adjustable" transformer is not usual-
Perhaps this is why you wallbox "locks"--caution ! you MAY damage the wallbox using this device !

Ron.
Don't go "all technical" on me, it's a bit discouraging, particularly when I've already said that the output is 24V DC.
I'd be pleased if you've an explanation what's causing it not to work, not what I should call it as that isn't helpful at all.

Riley,
I was questioning the "DC" ?? I have never seen a "transformer" that can deliver DC, only AC ?? As far as I know, wallboxes require AC, not DC ?? I am not to familiar with RockOla wallboxes, but I was assuming that the one you have also requires AC--
If that is so--that's why this "transformer" won't work--- Ron Rich

Thanks for that Ron, now I understand.
