Hello, I couldn't find what i was looking for in the search so I thought I would ask you guys. I was just wondering if there was a source for an after market or reproduction needle rest for a cabinet style Sonora phonograph. If you guys don't know what I'm talking about, its the Petrified 1920's rubber thing that the reproducer and needle sits on when not playing a record. I have not been successful in finding a suitable replacement thus far, and it would be nice to have something that looks right instead on a cut in half bouncy ball. Thank you in advance.

Hi Joshua:
I used to have a Sonora Baby Grand, but instead of a rubber cushion, it used a very thick piece of felt. If you can't find a piece of soft rubber, then felt should be okay.

Thanks for the reply, I've seen cork used as well. Before it was deformed over the years it looks like it resembled a little hedgehog made of rubber. I've seen small dog toys that look similar but were the hollow squeeky ones and wouldn't work. I'll keep up my quest to find a good match. If anyone else has a lead let me know. Thanks!

I found the patent

and here's one that was for sale at Phonographs.org --

sold unfortunately, but the rubber was probably shot anyway.
I know of no parts suppliers, specifically, that stock anything like this, but if you haven't already done so, you might try George Vollema at Great Lakes Antique Phonograph to see if he any suggestions --

I have a Sonora "Melody" table grand of c.1920 and had the same problem with the rubber needle rest. I carefully prised it out of its metal container and re-inserted it upside down. It looks OK.

Yep, That would be what i am talking about. Not a big deal if I don't have the exact match again. Just wanted to pick someones brain and see what they could find. I have only been into these things (phonographs) since the begining of 2013. I'll keep on the lookout for something that works and looks good. And I'll check back when I do. Thanks again Joe. And Welcome DECCA120. I like these Sonora machines. Quality and sound great.
